This week I had read Ho Che Anderson’s ‘King’. This comic is based on the movement of the
revolutionary civil acts leader Dr. Martin Luther Kings Jr.’s legacy in
America. The comic shows the sources of violence and prejudice faced during
that time. Anderson’s documentary comic about King captured moments that
occurred in his life. Many of the critical events that happened to others
around King in the comic was historically accurate. While reading this comic,
the viewer will grasp the experience of being minority during that time period.
Anderson chanted energy throughout this comic
with strong visual graphics. Graphics of which symbolized the character’s power
in the comic. Many of the character’s were shaded is harshly which showed
symbolism of being emotionally dark, depressed and without hope. Some of the
characters did not even have eyes, which also showed walking by faith and not
by sight, which was manly in context of King himself. There were protesters who
did not have mouths, which showed how their voices were unheard. All of these
important contexts make the narrative of the story appealing the reader by
letting them get into the emotions of the characters themselves.
Overall, I have read a lot of other bibliographies
about Dr. King, but I really enjoyed reading this comic. It was more realistic
and gave me a glimpse of Dr. King’s life. Anderson did a good job of conveying ethics
and Dr. King’s perspective.
